Expeditions Into Life

To kick off National Poetry month:

Expeditions Into Life

As if standing on the stoop

Coat wrapped snugly in anticipation
Right foot tipped slightly over the edge
So began the expedition into a Life
A stepping off
Into the Sea

No longer standing in the middle
Not standing to the left or right
With no beginning
Whilst no end
Just expeditions
Into a Life

Wash thine hair in murky water of strife
The beautiful fragile survive
Beyond earth's final daylight
Along 200 billion stars glide
Ever continuing Life

Ready to interrupt delicate balance
Any vine would wind choking the Life
Yet with one gasp escapes from clutches
Not towards but away
Propelled by eternity

The pipe organ boasts loudly
Attempts to steal
Soft voice of thought
From its place surreal

Gay as flags flapping in Country Breezes
A wash woman hangs her pieces
Now being read centuries ahead

Not arrived til the Sea
Gulps more breaths from white sands
Left along bays by long departed

The Expeditionaire dares start another trip
With a final sip from the nectar glass
A single petal flutters landing on one wave
Of an eternal Sea ~ A Life

tides

lost

the tide came in upon your shore

depositing treasures of shells

you picked one up and put in your pocket

carrying it with you as you walked

you were sidetracked by gulls

then a few children playin took your eyes away

your walk continued along your shore

what seemed like perhaps years

alas you had forgotten the sea shell

when you reached inside that pocket

as if totally unknown to you

you tossed the shell back into the ocean

with nary more a thought

you turned left then right on shore

kept right on walking ~ ~

~ and the sea shell wept for the loss as carried further out to sea it was tossed ~  sea it was tossed ~

beneath the shade of blue

I wonder how it is
that the heart
hears whispers
my ears
leave out

I think being human
is truly over rated

The fragility of being human
so sorely neglected

The soul alone
connects
this world
with the other
dimensions

my yearning
is to be released
from the grasp
of ego's desperation

I could have been
in love with everything
nothing would have
changed that love
only ego tried so hard
to strangle it

time with you

 Appreciating the Gift of You

"You give but little when you give of your possessions. It is when you give of yourself that you truly give." ~Kahlil Gibran

Turn left
Stop
Pull forward
Park
Run into that shop
Grab what ya got.
The rat race goes on and on.

Time valued is still time lost when the moment
you spent it you forgot it.

How to give 'you' rather than give 'things'
is rarely taught and
seldom role modeled these days.
It is as if our time goes by in
a fast unacknowledged haze
without giving ourselves
simply from our hearts.

I paused this morning thinking about how gratefulness
to others for the time they have given me ~ sometimes slips
away from me when I am not focused on the person with a
deep level of listening that silences my thoughts forming
to be spoken next. I miss the gift of the person given to me.

Back to my basics ... back to be ever so grateful for the mountains
in front of me to climb and the river beyond to swim. Back to
a genuine appreciation of the people who cross my path adding to
my heart that seeks to learn about Love.

Thank you for giving pieces of you to me. Thank you for giving
me some of that precious time that is finite and goes by too
fast for anyone of us.

Thank you for Being You and letting me be me.
