Sunset at Carmel-by-the-sea
To kick off National Poetry month:
Expeditions Into Life
As if standing on the stoop
Coat wrapped snugly in anticipation
Right foot tipped slightly over the edge
So began the expedition into a Life
A stepping off
Into the Sea
No longer standing in the middle
Not standing to the left or right
With no beginning
Whilst no end
Just expeditions
Into a Life
Wash thine hair in murky water of strife
The beautiful fragile survive
Beyond earth's final daylight
Along 200 billion stars glide
Ever continuing Life
Ready to interrupt delicate balance
Any vine would wind choking the Life
Yet with one gasp escapes from clutches
Not towards but away
Propelled by eternity
The pipe organ boasts loudly
Attempts to steal
Soft voice of thought
From its place surreal
Gay as flags flapping in Country Breezes
A wash woman hangs her pieces
Now being read centuries ahead
Not arrived til the Sea
Gulps more breaths from white sands
Left along bays by long departed
The Expeditionaire dares start another trip
With a final sip from the nectar glass
A single petal flutters landing on one wave
Of an eternal Sea ~ A Life
